On location ...

Hello - it seems a long time since I posted anything on my blog. I think I need to do some dusting and cobweb clearing around here! This little butterfly has just fluttered off, along with a bunch of other creatures, to Just Makers. They are going to be on display in The Bath House at RHS Harlow Carr for the next month or so. I made them all some smart new packaging for their adventure! I will be popping over to visit them in the next few weeks so hopefully will be able to share a photo of them with you whilst they are on location!

Access Art - Share a Bird Project

Access Art have been organising the Share a Bird Project - where artists gift a bird and this is in turn gifted onto a school to provide inspiration for the children. Access Art is an organisation that aims to inspire and enable high quality visual arts teaching, learning and practice. One of my machine embroidered magpies is winging his way to join their flock of beautiful birds and I wonder where he will end up. Along with the magpie I have also included an embroidered magpie feather and a small handmade sketchbook filled with feathery inspiration. I hope he arrives safely at his new home!

MOMA 100 days of making project

Today is the first day of the Museum of Modern Arts 100 Days of Making - anyone can join in and pledge to make something or create something for 100 days. My project will be to stitch/embroider snippets of my daily life onto postcards so that at the end of the 100 days I shall have a fab diary/record of the period from which to base future work on. I will be embroidering found objects, snippets of paper and fabric on blank postcards or just adding to used postcards. I will be posting photos over on Instagram where I can be found at @kirstyjmason and my hashtags is #stitchedsnippets with the project hashtag of #the100dayproject. Here's Day 1 - a feather found on a walk today ...

Moths ...

A little peep at my work this week. These pieces have evolved from my Field Notes theme. The moth has been embroidered using a stump work technique and sits on a stitched paper background, mounted on a polished oak base. I have a little series of these on the go at the moment - I will share them as they get finished. I have been trying to get some decent photos of this today - the close ups seem ok but the full piece ones haven't come out too well - why does my camera never take what I see!!!

Easter Bunny ...

"Oh dear. Oh dear. I shall be late". Lewis Carrolls Alice in Wonderland inspired rabbit. I have made this for the Ripon Easter Rabbit Trail which starts today and runs over Easter. Around 30 artists have created white rabbits which are hiding in the shop windows around the town centre. I have had a sneak preview of some of the rabbits and they look amazing - it will be well worth a trip. I am going to hop over at some point and see if I can hunt them all down!
